Question 1

What happens on my first visit to Wheat Chiropractic?

Accepted Answer

Dr. Wheat and Dr. Galbraith will begin with a thorough examination and assess your areas of concern, carefully considering your health history. They are trained in x-ray techniques, and may request an x-ray of your back and neck for an accurate diagnosis. Only after this initial examination will a recommended course of treatment be offered, which may consist of chiropractic adjustments, therapies, and rehabilitation. Our doctors specialize in back, neck, and extremity pain, offering hands-on, non-invasive, and drug-free treatments tailored to each patient, no surgery, no medications, just effective natural care.

Question 2

What is chiropractic care?

Accepted Answer

Chiropractic supports the concept that proper function of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems can provide for better health. It is a form of health care that is drugless, non-invasive, and actively promotes health. Chiropractic care is holistic, meaning the entire body and a person's lifestyle are examined and treated. The most common therapeutic procedure is known as spinal manipulation, or chiropractic adjustment. The purpose is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in movement as a result of a tissue injury.

Question 3

Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?

Accepted Answer

Chiropractic adjustment rarely causes discomfort. Patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment that usually resolves within 12 to 48 hours. In many cases such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment, or it may complement other medical treatment.

Question 4

How much education do chiropractors have?

Accepted Answer

Chiropractic graduates must have a minimum of seven years of college education. Chiropractic education's foundation in the basic life sciences includes coursework in anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, physical and laboratory diagnostics, radiology, pathology, nutrition, and public health. Doctors of Chiropractic focus on the diagnosis of musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders and treatment through clinically and scientifically established conservative procedures.

Question 5

Are chiropractors real doctors?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A chiropractic college grants a D.C. or Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. Chiropractors are licensed health care providers in every U.S. state. Just like medical doctors, chiropractors are subject to the same testing procedures, licensing, and monitoring by state and national peer-reviewed boards.

Question 6

Do medical doctors work with chiropractors?

Accepted Answer

In recent decades, the opinion of most medical doctors has changed significantly. Hospitals across the country now have chiropractors on staff, and chiropractors and medical doctors are now much more comfortable working together when medical care is necessary as an adjunct to chiropractic care.

Question 7

Once I start chiropractic care, do I have to keep going forever?

Accepted Answer

No. You only have to continue going to the chiropractor as long as you wish to maintain the health of your neuromusculoskeletal system. Going to a chiropractor is much like going to the dentist or exercising at a gym: as long as you keep it up, you continue to enjoy the benefits.
